Therapy for artists
Accessing all of who you are
It can be hard to be different. People don’t always understand what’s important to you, or get excited about the things that light you up, or get why you’re proud of the things you’re proud of. That can be really lonely. Many artists and gifted people have a hard time valuing themselves, especially when people don’t seem to value art, which is a core part of them, or when people tell them they're 'too sensitive,' or when trauma has taught them there is something wrong with being who they are, and especially if they're different even among people who are different. Artists often find that their suffering is closely bound up with their gifts, which are central to their identities, and it’s vital that we explore that together. A holistic process touches on all aspects of your struggle, from feeling alien to creative block and ineffective ways of practicing your art - and your strengths as well.
I help a lot of people with a lot of different struggles, but because of my own background as a conservatory-trained musician, and because of the unique struggles of people who are highly sensitive, gifted, or creative artists, I am particularly interested in helping these talented people. Although you may feel isolated, overwhelmed, or have trouble finding ways to fit into a world that isn't always aligned with your strengths, perceptions, and values, I know it's possible to feel safe and resilient, and to live a life that feels worthwhile.
Hurtful messages and trauma can make it feel unsafe to know parts of ourselves. When we no longer feel rejected or rejecting of these parts, we may be astonished by the levels of creativity this opens up: once fear or shame are no longer in the way, it becomes possible to inquire far more deeply within.
“The real voyage of discovery consists
not in seeking new landscapes,
but in having new eyes.”
-Marcel Proust
